It was heartening to read about the current Mayor of Bangalore, INDIA commenting on protection of trees. They have been chocked by misuse with nailing advertisements of various kinds such as PGs, PAN cards, savings, etc., The others who are choking them are the pavement contractors who cover the whole area with concrete.
Any right thinking engineer or a contractor would try and protect the trees by allowing proper gaps around the trees so that the water can percolate as well as allow the tree trunk to expand. In quite a few cases of recent concreting of foot paths, the trees have been chocked with out leaving any gaps.
In order to control the ugly looking advts on trees, BBM could have a advt board at every prominant street and use that space for advertisements. Penalties must be collected by those who advertise with out regulation.
